Plan the Night Before: The 10/90 Rule in Practice

Tracy points to the 10/90 rule: the first ten percent of time you invest in planning a task saves up to ninety percent of the time in getting it done. Planning is not overhead, it is the highest-leverage work you do.

Make your list the night before, so your subconscious works on it overnight and you wake up already oriented. When you sit down in the morning, the thinking is done and you can move straight into action.

Work from a list. When something new comes up, add it to the list before you do it. A list is a visible track that keeps you focused and gives you the small, repeated satisfaction of crossing items off.
